Let Down Your Nets

Luke 5:1-6

1. We must share the Gospel.

   1. Luke 16:27-28 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: (28) For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

   2. Jesus has a message to the world... - see v.10

2. How the disciples caught a bunch of fish

   1. They did the right thing – v.5 (obeyed the Lord)

      1. Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

   2. They were in the right place – v.4 (where the fish are)

      1. look for opportunities to share the Gospel

      2. 1 Corinthians 9:22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

   3. They had the right equipment – v.4 (Nets – how you catch a bunch)

      1. a transformed sinner on fire for God – that'll catch a lot

         1. Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

3. We must catch men

   1. Why? (The poor souls are going to hell? NO.)

      1. Love: Because Jesus gave His life for them

         1. We all deserve hell but God so loved the world!

      2. Obedience: Because He has instructed us to be a witness

         1. Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

      3. Compulsion: Because the Holy Ghost is compelling us to (bursting out)

         1. Acts 4:18-20 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. (19) But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. (20) For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
